Executive Director

Attorney Phillip Ensler has served as the Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama since October of 2022. Prior to that, he served as the president of the board. He previously worked as the Senior Policy at the City of Montgomery and worked to expand educational and economic programs and opportunities for youth. Prior to that, he was Policy Counsel at Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. After graduating from the George Washington University in D.C., Phillip was a Teach for America corps member where he taught social studies at the former Lee High School in Montgomery. While teaching in 2012 he started a mentorship program to help local public school students achieve their college and career goals. He continues to lead the program each year by bringing students to D.C. and New York City to expose them to college, career, and cultural opportunities and meet with professional leaders.. He has mentored hundreds of students over the years and helped them apply for colleges, scholarships, internships, and jobs. He is a 2017 graduate of Cardozo School of Law and a member of the Alabama Bar. Phillip was elected in November 2022 to represent District 74 in the Alabama House of Representatives where he serves as the only Jewish lawmaker.
